

The deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 resulted in more than 41,000 fatalities in all. Arab media reported that 5,800 people perished in Syria from the earthquake, compared to 35,418 fatalities in Turkey. According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, more than 2.2 million people have evacuated the country’s earthquake-affected regions.

Reports state that rescue operations from the earthquake rubble are still ongoing more than a week later. In the Turkish city of Antakya, after 208 hours, a 65-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl were rescued out of the rubble alive. Nine individuals were reportedly rescued alive from the rubble yesterday in Turkey, according to the news agency.
